Our Testimony by Dr. Charles Stanley
Acts 8:4-39
If ever you have been asked to give your testimony, you probably have responded by telling others what the Lord has done for you. While we are commanded to share our faith with others, this action alone does not fully comprise our testimony.
Our testimony is three-fold. It includes our character (who we are), our conduct (what we do), and our conversation (what we say). All are veryimportant, and when one element of the trio does not match the others, it clouds our testimony.
The base of our testimony is our character. It is unseen and unheard but produces fruit that is seen and heard. Whatever is inside a person willoverflow to his or her actions and communication.
Philip was an evangelist who earlier had been elected as a table-server in the Jerusalem church. He was selected because he was "full of the Spirit and of wisdom" (Acts 6:3, 5). It is clear in Philip's encounter with the eunuch that Philip's character included a spirit of obedience, sensitivity, and sincerity. Nothing he said or did conflicted with whom he claimed to be; rather, his actions and words were manifestations of the life of Christ within him.
Jesus says in John 7:38: "He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, 'From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.'" When we're walking in the Spirit, we don't have to worry about muddying the water.
